Other Ways We Help
We believe giving back comes in many different shapes and sizes. It's donating a percentage of proceeds to a non-profit. It's a micro-loan. It's training and education. It's bikes for women to ride to a job where the only other transportation option is your feet.
Our initial visit to our textile artisans led us to the tea gardens in Dooars, India. We spent time in village homes with no water, electricity, or beds to sleep on. Village homes where women want to provide, but jobs are scarce.
We were overwhelmed with the vast scope of need in this community, questioning if we could somehow make a difference. These women needed more than just a one-time hand out. These women needed a skill and a job.
10 Made has provided a micro-loan for training 5 women to sew in the Dooars region. It allowed them to purchase 3 sewing machines and the other equipment and materials necessary to set up a small shop, and pay them a fair wage. The training for these women is nearly complete, and they will start by sewing basic pillows and textiles to sell locally in markets.
